One of the most common (and costly) mistakes in a tiling project is buying too few tiles and having to make a second trip to the store — only to find that batch is a slightly different shade. Getting the math right upfront is worth the five minutes it takes. This calculator is built to make that part easy.

How It Works

The tool runs two simple but important calculations:

• First, it calculates the total area of your room from the length and width you provide. You'll get the result in square feet or square meters, depending on which unit system you're using.
• Then it divides the room area by the area of a single tile to figure out the bare minimum tile count needed to cover the space.
• But here's the part that actually matters in practice: tiling always needs extra material. Cuts around edges, the occasional broken tile, future repairs — it all adds up. The calculator applies a wastage percentage (10–15% is standard, but you can adjust it) to give you a realistic final number to bring to the store.

Metric and Imperial Support

You can switch between Imperial (feet and inches) and Metric (meters and centimeters) at any point. If your room is measured in feet but your tiles are listed in centimeters — which happens more often than you'd think — the calculator handles all the unit conversion for you.
