A Guide to Percentage Calculations

Why Percentages Matter

Percentages are everywhere. Tipping at a restaurant, figuring out how much you actually saved in a sale, reading your investment returns, comparing test scores — all percentages. The math isn't hard, but you'd be surprised how easy it is to mix up which calculation you actually need. This tool handles the most common ones so you don't have to think about the formula.

What Can You Calculate?

There are a few different modes, each solving a slightly different type of question:

  • "What is X% of Y?" is probably the one you'll use most. That's your discount calculation — 20% off ₹1,500, how much is the sale price, that kind of thing.
  • "X is what percent of Y?" flips it around. You got 30 out of 40 on a test and you want to know your score as a percentage — this is the mode for that.
  • Percentage increase/decrease is what you need when you're tracking changes over time: a stock that went from ₹200 to ₹250, website traffic month over month, or sales figures across quarters.
  • Fraction to percentage converts something like 3/4 straight into 75%. Quick and useful when you've got a ratio but need a percentage.

How to Use It

Pick the type of calculation you need from the dropdown, fill in the two numbers, and the result appears as you type. No submit button, no waiting. If you switch modes, the inputs clear so you don't accidentally carry over numbers from a different calculation.
